August 31st, 792KE we found a dead body, a letter, a medallion. adventure ended august 31st, 792KE

September 2nd, 792KE The Contract: finding a Vampire in Mossford
Need to meet Cairus Runellus at Olav's Tap and Tack for more information, he was tasked with the initial investigation.

Sep 3rd-4th Uneventful travel.

September 5th, 792KE Late afternoon, arrived in Mossford (mining town)
Headed to Olav's
Spoke to the Proprietor, Cairus is renting a room, but is not available. We rent a room for the night and ask for him to inform Cairus that we are there to meet him.
Cairus finds us, tells us that a "Vampire Hunter" by the name of "Nerrel West" already killed the Vampire, "Raynil Lirrian".
During the day, Nerrel speaks with the foremen at the mine. The inn he is staying at is "The Flowing Bowl". He said he would be in town for about a week.
The grave is located to the west of town.
We retire for the night.

September 6th, 792KE We head for The Flowing Bowl at sunrise to try and catch Nerrel before he leaves.
Nerrel wasn't the one who buried the vampire, he says it was a lady in town who's name he doesn't remember. He says that his word should be enough for Fleet to know for sure what happened. I say I appreciate the confidence but I have never heard of him. He says that while his name has been circulated he supposes its not weird for a commoner to have never heard of him. I take slight offence at this, thank him for his time and leave.
We find the grave on our own, and a woman is standing by it.
The woman says that Raynil was not a vampire. She allows us to exume him and lends us her shovel. I start digging and Gilli starts helping clean up the copious amounts of blood in the house.
Unfortunately I am unable to definitively determine whether he is a vampire as he has decomposed too much.
We rebury him.
We start cleaning up again and investigating.
Gilli determines that he was not a vampire due to the fact that there are windows in his house. There are no artifacts or anything to suggest that he is a vampire. There's weak evidence that he was not a vampire.
By this time it's mid-afternoon.
We approach the woman and ask her about the rumors. She says that the rumors didn't start until Nerrel arrived in town.
She doesn't know why Raynil was targeted.
We head back to the Flowing Bowl to eat while we wait for Nerrel to return.
Nerrel comes out of his room and we confront him. I try to intimidate him into admiting he drummed up the rumors, but fail spectacularly. Gilli tries to persuade him to see our side, but also fails. He leaves and we decide to tail him.
He meets with a few people, and we can't listen in on all of his conversations, but what we do hear is smalltalk. No serious meetings.
He goes back to the Inn as it gets dark.
We take shifts sleeping through the night, waiting to see if he comes out.

September 7th, 792KE Just after sunrise, he comes out of the Inn.
We tail him to an office, then back to the Inn. He sees us.
He comes out of the Inn geared to travel, and heads to the stable. We decide to confront him.
Gilli apologizes for yesterday, and asks if there's anything that Nerrel can give us beyond his word. Nerrel is cold and says no, citing our tailing him as a reason.
He leaves Mossford via the west road.
We head back to Tenet.

Sep 8th-9th Uneventful travel

September 10th, 792KE Late afternoon
We arrive back at Tenet, as it threatens to rain.
We meet with Fleet and convey what happened.
Fleet says that it's disturbing, and also that he's never heard of Nerrel.
I ask if there's anything based on what I told him that we could have done better.
He says that while there may have been other options, he thinks that all of the decisions we made were reasonable.
We bid farewell and leave him to his paperwork.

September 11th, 792KE A messenger from Fleet retrieved myself and Gilli and said that it was urgent.
We arrived and Fleet informed us of an outbreak of Ataxia, a very contagious illness.
I ask if there's any special preparations we should make, and he gives us seven potions of greater restoration.
Since the outbreak is on a well travelled route, and it is so contagious, you will not be travelling by usual means. We had to travel via "leylines".
He shows on the map where we need to go, the "Cenar's Sanctum".
The disease causes serious paralysis and eventually progresses to organ failure.
We headed to Cenar's Sanctum.
We arrived at a stone arch with an old Druid. He beckons us inside.
We followed him to a stone platform in the woods, and he waves for us to stand on it.
He told us that it is very important that we don't speak.
Some vines enclosed around us in a capsule, and then withered away and we appeared in a tunnel.
The Druid started walking and we followed.
A few hours passed as we walked though what seemed like a maze of tunnels.
He stopped at a particular tunnel and pulled back the rock like a curtain and beckoned for us to go through.
After we walked through he let the "curtain" go and we were left on our own in a field.
We saw a small settlement about a mile away and we walked over.
A dwarf approaches us with a weapon in hand, and asks what we are doing, and I show him my hands and told him the chain sent us to help with a disease. He said there was no disease and asked what we brought. I told him we were given seven potions of greater restoration.
He raised his eyebrows and said that would do it. He lowered his weapon and extended his hand. "I'm Dolgan Warmfoot".
We shook his hand and introduced ourselves.
Dolgan leads us to a shed with the three victims, two dwarves and an elf.
I used my "Lay on hands" to heal them to save on the potions.
After each of them was healed, they all vomited up a black bile.
The piles of vomit started to rise from the ground. I used my Divine Sense and determined them to be fiends of sludge.
I called for Gilli to assist me in fighting it.
Gilli killed one of the three, and the sludge morphed into being part of the other two.
After a bit more combat, the two remaining fiends combined into one.
Gilli deals the final blow to the combined fiend.
It dissolves into dust and disappears.
The three survivors of the disease seem to be ok, if weak.
We step outside of the shack and inform Dolgan of what transpired.
As we spoke with him, we heard a commotion and we walked to the other side of the shed to see what's going on.
The Druid is there and is trying to kidnap a bunch of chickens.
I asked the druid what he was doing.
He said he needed more food, and that "they" like live food.
As we "conversed" he grabbed his third chicken, and then we heard a rumbling from the tree that we exited the leylines from.
The tree opened up and two hounds came running out towards the druid.
I used Sacred Weapon on my battleaxe to prepare. Gilli had to use a health potion because he was already low from the last fight.
While we were fighting the hounds, they growled in unison and we felt a pressure wave.
The hounds swapped places in the middle of the fight.
The Druid made a break for it, but the hounds didn't want to let him go.
He managed to get some distance but then he turned around and managed to restrain the hounds with some kind of spell.
Gilli dispatched one of the hounds, and the other broke free from it's restraint and teleported next to the first and started eating its remains.
The Druid moved in a bit closer and threw a couple of firebolts at the remaining hound.
After we couple more hits on the hound, the Druid managed to restrain the hound again.
Gilli then dispatched the remaining hound.
The Druid walked up to the hell hound and started butchering it. He eventually cut out the heart and divided it in half. He offered the halves to myself and Gilli and said "Eat this if you want to go through the laylines again. If you take this, you can travel through them without dying immediately."
Dolgan was very confused and disgusted.
So we cooked them up and ate them.
As we ate it, we gained an intuition for where the leylines are. It was a subtle feeling, but it was definitely there.
Gilli and I camped overnight to recuperate.

September 12th, 792KE The Druid brought us back to the leylines and led us to Tenet. He had managed to negotiate for a dozen of the chickens he was trying to kidnap.
As we walked back, he explained the basics of how the leylines work.
Every time you travel you need to bring an animal as an offering lest you get attacked by the tollhounds (as happened yesterday).
If we ever see any other animals we need to run.
We can get to anywhere within a couple miles of our destination.
About halfway back to Tenet, we came across another pair of tollhounds and he fed them the chickens that he brought.
As we left the Sanctum, he gave us one final piece of advice: "Don't tell anyone about the leylines."
It was about noon when we arrived in Tenet.
We walked to the chain headquarters and relayed the happenings of our adventure to Fleet.
He had no idea where the fiends would have come from, it certainly wasn't what had been described to him as Ataxia.
He then told us that he negotiated the reward to be 300gp per person, and we bid him a good day and went back to our quarters.

Wednesday, September 15th, 792KE We spoke to Fleet in the morning to get our next contract.
He sent us to Oren's Knife to look for Simon Renfred, who has gone missing. We were tasked with securing his safety.
His last known location was a burial crypt a few days journey north of Point.
Fleet said that Simon probably wouldn't want to leave the peninsula, but would probably want to send some books and/or notes back with us.
We decided to try taking the leylines on our own, so we bought eight chickens between the two of us.
We entered the leylines in an alleyway and begun our journey.
We walked for a short while letting our intuition guide us, but then we were attacked by a ogre.
Attacked is an understatement.
We had our shit absolutely rocked by this ogre and barely escaped with our lives.
After narrowly defeating the ogre we decided to exit the leylines and camp for the night.

Thursday, September 16th, 792KE We continued our journey through the leylines and arrived at our destination.
After much discussion on what to do with eight live chickens that we didn't need for whatever reason, we came to a decision.
We left the chickens outside the front door with a days worth of rations and headed inside.
As we explored the crypt and went through various passages, we came upon a locked door.
Gilli picked the lock with ease, and the door led into a room with demonic looking masks on one wall, an iron door with a red X drawn on the front.
We decided to leave that door for last and continued elsewhere.
We came into another room with various torture devices with doors on all four walls.
Through one of the doors was a hallway that ended in a dead end and it was filled with body parts.
Through the second door was a room lined with altar looking tables with various urns.
That room was also connected to another hallway with another iron door with a red X.
That same hallway was conected to a room with corpses lining the walls. We eventually came upon a room with several zombies.
As the first one fell, spiders came pouring out of it's wounds and went into the remaining zombies.
In the shuffle of killing the rest, some spiders got stepped on, but most escaped through an iron door to our south.
We checked a couple of other paths that didn't have doors, and then followed them.
Behind that door was another locked door that Gilli managed to get open.
Behind that door was twenty zombies along with two figures encased in a transparent blue crystal.
The two figures appeared to be shaking hands.
The zombies did not immediately take notice of us. We decided to come back later after exploring more.
We found a room with a table in the center with an assortment of sending stones. Five pairs and seven individuals.
We went looking around again and found a room with a bunch of corpses and writing on the walls. The writing was in a script similar to common but we couldn't recognize any of the words.
We went back to the room with the zombies and they still didn't notice us so we walked past them to a door to the west.
This room had no corpses, but there was writing on the wall. The writing was closer to common and I was able to decipher that it was a list of people's names. A lot of names.
In a closet connected to this room we found some fine stone working tools.
In another closet connected to the room with the zombies we found a bunch of small statues that looked like this: ඞ
Gilli made his way across the room through the zombies to check the final door, and there were corpses in that room.
He went further in and found another door with a red X that is unlocked. The first of it's kind so far.
He came back to the zombie room and was able to get close to the crystal.
The two people were a man and a woman and between their hands is a blue object but he couldn't tell what it was.
In their left hands, the man has another object that looked kind of like one of the sending stone.
Also embedded in the crystal, but not touching them yet, are some of the spiders we've seen.
I managed to get across the room to join him but one of the zombies woke up and started listening more intently.
We went to the unlocked red door and found a spider statue impaled by a sword. Gilli removed the sword and could feel that it was magic, but he was unable to discern how. He decided to hang onto it.
We went to another one of the red doors and Gilli tried to pick it.
He took a little time but it did eventually open.
On the east wall was a large spider pinned to the wall with metallic stakes.
We went to a third room with a red X door and Gilli opened it up.
In this room there were four spiders staked to the wall. The stakes had buttons on the end for some unknown purpose.
I grabbed one of the stakes and attempted to pull it out and it didn't budge. I then tried pushing the button and it immidiately came loose. I pulled it out and the spider started coming coming back to life. I shoved the stake back into the wall and it continued to twitch and scream. I swung my axe right at it's head and as I hit it, it quieted right down.
I tried pulling the stake out again and the spider stayed dead.
I pushed the button and it froze in the air and I was unable to move it.
Gilli and I decided to make sure that all of the spiders are dead. When that was finally taken care of, we checked in on the zombie room. The zombies appeared to be back to being corpses and the floor was littered with tiny spider corpses.
We both went in for a closer look at the people in the crystal. They each had a satchel with papers, quills, ink bottles and other writing impliments.
There was a strange metal and wooden contraption on the womans hip in some kind of holster.
The man appeared to be holding a sending stone in his left hand, but we could not see the rune engraved on it.
The crystal seemed to be of magical origin, and it seemed to be originating from the object between the figures hands. It also seemed to be pretty smashable.
I swung the flat size of my battleaxe into the crystal at about their waist level with all the strength I could muster and it broke in half and started dissolving.
The man and woman start coughing in the dust and try to catch their breath. The spiders that were in the crystal were dead.
When they finally caught their breath, the man identified himself as Simon Renfred and asked if we were his rescuers. I replied in the affirmative.
We took them to the room with the sending stones and he was glad to see they were safe.
He said he's an archeologist and he doesn't like removing things and put his sending stone back on the table after some thought.
I mentioned that taking a pair would be pretty useful and he said that if we choose to do so then it would be on our own head.
I said that we took care of some giant spiders and asked if there was anything else in the crypt that we needed to worry about. He asked what I meant about giant spiders and I explained the red doors to him.
He looked horrified and said something to the woman in a language we didn't understand. We then left the crypt with haste.
When we exited the crypt we found our chickens still there but the rations were eaten.
He was confused about the chickens and I gave a hand-wavy explaination about how they would help us get back to the mainland.
He gave us some papers to take back to the mainland.
I asked if he would like us to accompany him to whatever town he's going to next.
He said we could if we wanted to.
After a drawn-out discussion between Gilli and myself about rations and chickens and whether we are able to go with Simon or not, Simon mentioned that his wife is able to conjure food.
That settled the debate and we accompanied him to Ta Rafit.

Thursday, September 16th 792KE through Tuesday, September 21st Uneventful travel.
On our journey, Simon told us about the history of the peninsula and also talked about the spider guardians in the tomb.
Apparently they're a tradition on the peninsula and someone will have to procure some more.

Wednesday, September 22nd, 792KE We arrived safely in Ta Rafit and Simon gave us a bunch more papers to take to the mainland.
Then we set off in the leylines back to Tenet.

Thursday, September 23rd 792KE We arrived back in Tenet very early in the morning with the full moon still high in the sky.
We still had our sacrificial chickens that were at this point quite malnourished, and we dropped them off at the stable. The stableboy was pretty confused but five gp shut him up.
Then we turned in to get what sleep we could.

Friday, September 24th, 792KE We headed to the chain to drop off Simon's papers with Fleet, and relay what happened in the tomb. As we were speaking with him we hear a loud explosion followed by screaming outside.
It sounded like a battle out there.
A large dragonborne barges in through the door and shouted "Send DUDES!"
Fleet ran out the door and we followed.
What we saw was not anything I recognized, but dozens of some kind of soldiers were killing people in the streets.
The soldiers kept changing shape, but kept a coat of white armor on their body.
Fleet grabbed the both of us by the shoulders and pushed us towards Castlefrom and told us to defend the library.
We took off running, and as we did Fleet tore off an amulet and transformed into some kind of ape-like creature twice his original size.
As we ran, I noticed Morwynn fighting off four of the invaders on her own.
I decided to stop and help since we could use her help defending the library, and I noticed Gilli stop after I did to assist.
As we killed the invaders, they melted into the ground and their armor turned into rocks around where their body was.
After the invaders were taken out, Morwynn joined us on our way to Castlefrom and we healed on the way.
We arrived in the basement of the library and saw a large dead creature made of up of a mishmash of insect parts. Around it were the bodies of what I assumed were defenders.
There was also a large stone door that was pushed open, but we couldn't see inside.
We went through the large stone door and stepped outside of the building with a stream and a narrow wooden bridge corssing it. Some of the trees were knocked over.
Across the stream we saw a young human boy flanked by two Chimeras, a reptilian one and a mammalian one.
As we approached, we could see inside of a raised bed with the bones of a very large man.
The young boy was walking in circles around the raised bed.
He asked us if we intended to stop him and then attacked us.
Gilli managed to take out the reptilian Chimera, but then the boy revived it.
Then I knocked the boy out so he couldn't do that again. I could have killed him but I figured an interrogation would be in order.
I then managed to take out the reptilian Chimera again, leaving just the mammalian Chimera.
We surrounded the mammalian Chimera and tried to take him down, but then the boy woke up.
The boy asked how the reptile could have died again, and then revived it again.
Gilli managed to knock the boy out for a second time.
I then managed to kill the mammalian chimera.
Then Gilli took out the reptilian chimera for the third time.
We tied up the boy as he started to wake up and dragged him back inside the library.
A dwarf walked in the front door and introduced himself as Torrum Steelbelt.
He informed us that the battle outside was dying down but not quite over yet.
I sent Morwynn to Fleet to inform him of the boy we have in our custody and ask for instructions.
The boy said that he would kill us if we didn't release him.
Gilli asked him how he would manage to do that seeing as he was currently tied up.
The boy's form then began to shift and change color as he burst the ropes off of his body.
He grew two or three feet and his skin turned completely pitch black.
He said he was going to walk out now.
I then cast "Turn the Unholy" on him.
This was, perhaps, a mistake as he then dashed all the way across the room.
I used a fire bolt to light the door on fire, thinking it might make him reconsider.
As he paused to do so, Gilli threw some ball bearings at his feet and his balance started to waver.
I tried to throw a flask of holy water at him but my hand slipped and I missed.
Gilli managed to figure out that the "boy" is an undead.
Torrum tried to persuade him to chill out but was ignored.
Torrum then tried to cast "Turn Undead" and failed.
The undead managed to slip through the burning door.
Turns out a three random Dwarves fighting an undead that's two or three feet taller than us is not conducive to success.
