On King Oren

It has been twenty four years since the to-be-crowned King Oren landed on the western shores of Ethurun. He came as a stranger, surrounded by strange men. It is said that the Moon herself blocked the sun as he took his first steps on this land, to augur Her champion and the war he was to bring. I myself was only a small child, and do not remember this, but the older folk across the land all verify that it is true. It is said that the Moonstricken were in total calamity at this sign, before the name of Oren was known. It is for this reason that the Dragonborn, although released from their role as King Oren's soldiers, have a special connection to the Moon.

The Dragonborn came to Ethurun as the vanguard of Oren. They were taller than all but the tallest of men, and stronger than the strongest of dwarves. They called themselves El'Tara, but they became known as the Dragonborn, appearing to be the descendants of the legendary wyrms that had besieged Ethurun in long ages past.

Kalthas and his Band of Red Sword were the first to do battle with him. That battle, on the Cliffs of Fahn, lasted for three days. On the fourth night, Kalthas knelt and swore fealty, and from that hour on Oren took him into his deepest counsel. And there afterwards Kalthas became his most loyal champion, following wherever Oren went.

Kalthas, Moonblessed Champion, was given a new sword and armor, and sworn to that celestial deity. His armor deflected even the most killing of blows, and his sword grew sharper with each fight. It is said that when King Oren's company met the Nine of Reach, Kalthas did battle with all of them at once, and felled them all with one mighty blow.

For eight years, Oren warred and conquered Ethurun. In those times, the land was fractured, with many conflicting tribes and warlords. Not only did Oren conquer by strength, but also by guile, being a shrewd negotiator and statesman. After eight long years, Ethurun was united under one banner, and a new era was initiated: The King's Era. With his conquest complete, Oren was crowned King Oren by his left hand, Aurgelmir, a mage of substantial power. King Oren then set down his sword in return for a plowshare, and labored long to restore the war-torn continent. Tenet, long ruined and desecrated, became his capital, and under his leadership it became a shining jewel. He established new guilds, one of which became my home, the Historian's Guild. The Moonstricken became his priests, as King Oren imparted new knowledge to them, and hung new stars in the sky to act as Walking Ways. Trade roads were renewed and created, and for the first time in modern times, Ethurun has peace.

Upon his coronation, the Moon once again darkened the sky, and a spirit came over King Oren. His voice boomed, and every man in that day heard his words. He gave a prophecy that day, the words of which are as follows:

Moon has sent me to you, my beloved.
One is coming in my footsteps, whom I am not worthy to undo his armor.
Remain steadfast, for he will come in war.
Do not stray from Blessed Moon.
Ruin will follow him, but so shall Redemption.
Embrace his rule.
Do not stray from Blessed Moon.

In the name of King Oren, I, Relthain Gilmoril, verify that this account is true. Written in King's Era 16.
